Moles

How to play

Moles is a social-deduction game built around a real study deck. Everyone but one player (the Mole) sees the actual term and definition; the Mole only gets a plausible-but-wrong clue. The debate is where it's decided who actually knows the material.

Roles

  • Civilian — sees the real term and definition, and votes to find the Mole.
  • Mole — never sees the term, only a one-word clue, and has to bluff their way through the debate.
  • Traitor (optional) — Knows the term, doesn't know the Mole, tries to protect them. They have to work out who they're covering for, same as everyone else.
  • Jester (optional) — Knows the term, wins by getting voted out.
  • Detective (optional) — Sees the term AND the Mole's clue. Unlocks at level 15.

Rounds

Everyone describes the term in their own words, for however many rounds the host set (two by default), and then the table votes. The most-voted player is eliminated and their role is revealed. If it wasn't the Mole, debate picks back up with whoever's left.

A tied vote eliminates nobody — the room gets one more round and votes again, so a split table decides it rather than a coin flip. Three tied votes in a row and the game breaks the tie for you, so a deadlock can't run forever.

Winning

  • Everyone else wins if the Mole is voted out — the Traitor loses right along with them.
  • The Mole's side wins once the Mole and Traitor still alive equal or outnumber everyone else still alive — so every wrong elimination brings them closer.
  • The Mole can also end it early by guessing the term outright.
  • The Jester wins alone the moment they're voted out, whatever else is happening.

Hosting vs. joining

Host from the library to pick a deck, then choose Online (everyone joins with a room code on their own device) or Local Pass & Play (one shared device passed around). Joining a game with a code just needs a name — you don't need an account to play, host, or join.
